A fun, social yet competitive group of eclectic hill climbers. We charge steep uphills and banter during the recovery. Each week is a new route featuring challenging short climbs in the beautiful hills of Silicon Valley. Named after Egan Middle School in Los Altos, where the ride meets every Tuesday.
Egan began in the mid-1990s with Western Wheelers, running on Thursdays through Portola Valley. By the mid-2000s Alto Velo took over with Kurt Liittschwager at the helm. After Ed Lee led through 2009, the ride went on hiatus until Dirk Bergstrom revived it in 2012. Today it's one of Silicon Valley's most beloved weekly sufferfests.
27 rides (Egan 1–28, #7 rained out). Donald Hersam leads men's GC with 11 wins. Jim Palmer tops PRs. Katie Monaghan commands the women's standings with 6 GC wins. Claude Luu — the sole iron rider, perfect 27 for 27.
Almost 13,000 PRs in a single season — the highest in club history. Wil Gibb and Jen Tavé each took 8 GC wins. The bar has never been higher.
793 riders. The field tripled in one year. Jen Tavé won 14 GC races — the most dominant single season ever recorded. One Tuesday: 711 PRs.
Word got out. The field jumped from 196 to 310 riders. Gavin Hlady and Gina Yuan dominated. Hannon Ayer set 146 PRs. Jerome S didn't miss a single ride.
The club was 20 years old — but 2022 was the first year anyone kept score. 196 riders. George Wehner took 7 GC wins. Scott W attended every single ride. 336 PRs in one day.
First season back after COVID. 16 rides, 42 men and 17 women returning to the hills. W. Drink and Katheryn Curi dominated the GC. Steven Wu set KOMs at 793W. James Nicol kept score all season via email.
